Recovery College, is one example of a participatory arts programme supporting adults with mental health prescriptions, that I managed at Towner Art Gallery. Working with a number of artists, paired with peer-leaders who brought ‘lived experience’ into the room, the gallery collection and exhibition were the starting point for creative discovery to support a range of mental health patients and their carers, in partnership with Sussex Downs College and Sussex NHS Partnerships Trust.

See the Sussex Recovery College website here.

Courses included series of weekly workshops in drawing, painting, printing and yoga, all designed in response to Arts Council Collection and Towner Art Gallery artworks. Learners reported on the agency afforded by the processes and product, as increasing confidence and wellbeing.
